Having been on earth for some decades already, I am having difficulty answering this age old question by family and friends:“What gift would you like for your birthday this year?” In material terms I don’t lack for anything or at least there is no burning desire for anything in particular, and for that, I feel fortunate. But my desire for health, happiness and inner peace is constant which nobody can offer me on a platter, nor can it be bought. We are the one that can provide it to ourselves, by eating properly, being active, doing things that makes us happy, being surrounded by positive people and most importantly spending time in our own company to discover our inner selves.
On my last birthday, when a friend of mine asked me if I have any particular wish for a present, I first said there is really no need to buy me anything, but as she insisted, I said may be “a pair of good earphones”? I tend to listen to a lot of music during my walks or while traveling so some good earphones are a must and I also knew it wasn’t something too expensive. What happened though was that she bought me a different gift, probably because she couldn’t find earphones easily. Anyway I told myself to put the earphones on the shopping list immediately. The same day, a classmate from high-school called. We hadn’t heard from each other for many years so we talked and talked for hours! My hands were almost numb from holding the phone for so long. We were catching up on the years gone by and talking about everything under the sun. I felt compelled to end such a nice and overdue conversation just to stop the ache in my arms! I mentioned this to him and he was surprised I was not using any earphones. “I don’t have any good ones,” I said. It was then that he asked what kind of mobile phone I was using that I remembered seeing a pair in the box when I had purchased this phone and had completely forgotten about them. So I looked for them right away, found them within 2 minutes and they turned out to be exactly the type that I wanted.
Often what we search or wish for may just be under our noses, we just can’t see them until someone helps us realize this, almost like when one searches for the glasses that are sitting on the top of one’s head. Yes, when reaching for something that you need desperately, you will often realize it is closer than you think. Sometimes you may discover on your own, at times you may need someone to help you see. It doesn’t matter how, what’s important is that you believe it is there and you shall find.
"In hope of a world, that does not celebrate the fake & the cold
In hope of a world where true emotions can be uphold
In hope of a world where truth is told
In hope of the world where sugar coated abuses are not sold
In hope of a world that does not force you to fit in & fold
In hope of a world where tears are allowed to unfold
You are not told to fake happy when your heart can no longer hold
In the hope of a world that doesn’t go numb & cold,
While faking positivity & not being bold
In hope of that world where you & I can be true to our core
We are not judged for being human
And not expected to be a bot, running on a computer code
Let the beauty of true emotions and the warmth of real unfold
Sweet, sour, bitter, happy, sad, high, low, cold
Sincere bonds and true connects
Let us not turn the world into a fake emotion(less) zone"
